What’s YOUR driving force? (Day 3)

on February 24, 2012

When you take the time to think about this question, we’re typically driven by one of five crippling powers – guilt, anger, materialism, the need for approval or fear.  And granted, many of us won’t openly admit to these; yet, they’re the fuel that serves as our driving force.

The problem with these five forces is this: they create dead ends in this road called life; in particular, plenty of stress and an unfulfilled life.

Living a life of purpose is the remedy for cutting off these dead ends.  When we know what we’re living for, our lives have meaning.  The day-to-day becomes more simple.  We’re focused.  We’re motivated.  And we’re prepare for eternity.

It’s understandable to feel a little trepidation when we try to wrap our minds around a purpose-driven life.   It sounds different, going against the grain of what’s “normal”.   However, the Lord is always with us, even when we feel alone.  The song You Loved Me sung by Karen Clark-Sheard and Kierra Sheard says it best:

You’re not alone
I’ll hold your hand
I’ll help you
To understand
Can’t nobody
Nobody love you
Like I can
I’ll step in
Right on
Right on time
I’m with you
Always, always
On time

So, my friend, ask yourself, what’s driving ME?  “Let’s keep focused on that goal, those of us who want everything God has for us.” (Phil. 3:15, MSG)
